Ed McDonough, CEO of GateHouse Treatment of New Hampshire hosts the first week of the Hope Dealer series airing on 107.7 WTPL and 107.3 WEMJ every Sunday at 10 am. His guest on the show for this week is Marty Boldin, the New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu’s Policy Advisor for Recovery, Prevention, and Treatment.
Ed McDonough, a person in long-term recovery shares about his own recovery journey from childhood to how GateHouse Treatment helped him not only get sober but now serve as the CEO of GateHouse Treatment of New Hampshire.
Marty Boldin also shares his story with addiction and recovery. He talks about how recovery has not only given him a new sense of freedom and happiness but the opportunity to bring awareness to the community and those still suffering from substance abuse.
Both men discuss the importance of community involvement in addressing substance abuse disorder together, and the important role dialogue plays in facilitating change. They also address how the state of New Hampshire has been handling the ongoing opioid crisis they have been facing and many of the new resources they are able to provide to battle it.
The opioid epidemic in New Hampshire has been devastating, with extremely high overdose and opioid-related drug statistics coming out of the small state.
One such example of the actions New Hampshire is taking, being the new Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative. According to www.recoveryfriendlyworkplace.com, “Recovery Friendly Workplaces (RFW’s) support their communities by recognizing recovery from substance use disorder as a strength and by being willing to hire and work intentionally with people in recovery. Recovery Friendly Workplaces encourage an environment where employers, employees, and communities can collaborate to create positive change and eliminate barriers for those impacted by addiction.” Boldin, leading this project, explains the importance and the benefits this initiative offers for not only businesses but the community as well.
In return for workplaces participating in the initiative, they will receive the backing of Governor Sununu’s office as well as the support of many people currently in recovery in the state of New Hampshire.
