Outpatient Treatment

Intensive Outpatient Treatment that Gets Results

At GateHouse Treatment, outpatient drug and alcohol treatment consists of individual counseling sessions, group therapy, and 12-step meetings.  Clients report to the facility five days a week in the first phase, 3 days per week in the second phase and 2 days per week in the third phase. This transition into the world allows clients to apply what they have learned as they gather recovery skills.

Clients find support and guidance from both their peers and our expert staff.  The 12-step component allows addicts and alcoholics to explore their spiritual lives and begin to build a network of other persons in recovery.  In many ways, outpatient treatment is the best of all possible worlds, encouraging clients to maximize their recovery skills and engage with resources that will provide long term support.

When not participating directly in their treatment sessions, clients live in highly structured sober homes that provide support and important opportunities for growth.  These sober homes also push clients out of their isolation practices by fostering a sense of community.  Addiction feeds on loneliness and isolation but cannot thrive in the light of day that group participation brings to our clients’ lives.

The opportunity for change is here.

All you have to do is walk through the door.

The Benefits of Outpatient Treatment

Beyond developing the tools necessary for recovery, perhaps the most important benefit of outpatient treatment is that it allows clients to have some freedom from the clinical facilities where they can apply their newfound skill set.  In other words, the addict continues to “show up for life” even as they begin the recovery process.

The idea of “showing up for life” is crucial to a rewarding and long term recovery. As you know, isolation is one of the most sinister tools of addiction. It causes the addict to feel more and more alienated, incompetent, and lonely. Cut off from family and friends, the addict or alcoholic ends up feeling as though they have no alternative but to continue using.

Resuming authentic participation in their daily lives is the best way to counteract the isolation that addiction requires in order to thrive. That is precisely why outpatient drug or alcohol treatment is the ideal choice for so many addicts. By allowing clients to live outside the clinical environment, outpatient treatment promotes healthy relationships, meaningful work lives, and a growing sense of self-esteem.
